The Werk Out 2012 Preview

As festival season winds down and summer comes to a close, all concert-goers can take solace in the fact that there’s still one more rager in the w(e)rks (<–see what I did there?). I’m speaking, of course, about the Werk Out Music and Arts Festival 2012, which is taking place Sept. 20th-23rd at Legend Valley in Ohio. And all band-name-puns aside, this festival looks like its going to be a really good time.

What to expect:

The Werk Out is only two-years-old, but it’s rapid growth and rave reviews from attendees over the past two years have given it a fantastic and exciting reputation. Werk Outs I & II took place at the Zane Shawnee Caverns, an Indian reservation in located Bellefontaine, OH. This year, to accomodate growing popularity, the festival has changed its setting to the enormous and beautiful Legend Valley in Thornville, OH. The only thing more promising than the location of the festival, is the music. The Werks will be playing three nights in a row. If you don’t know any better, you might be thinking to yourself, “how the heck are they going to keep that interesting?”. Let me tell you something, I had the pleasure of touring with these fellas as their FOH engineer for an entire year after college. I watched them play almost every single night, and I never saw them do the same thing twice. These guys have a crazy skill-set that combines mind-blowing improvisation with the ability to musically dominate several different genres at any given time. Their live shows are an absolute f*cking roller coaster ride. If that doesn’t tickle your fancy, maybe you’d be better off at a Bieber concert!

The Lineup:

The band announced the initial lineup back at their CD release in April, which included names like Ekoostik Hookah, EOTO, Rusted Root, and The Everyone Orchestra. Since then they’ve made a few hefty additions including Lotus, Papadosio, and Greensky Bluegrass. Pretty cool, right?
