The English sisters Emily, Jessica and Camilla Staveley–Taylor formed The Staves back in 2008. A gorgeous sounding folk rock trio, they have played for and toured with big names in the music industry such as Bon Iver, Tom Jones, The Civil Wars and Fionn Regan.
After releasing a few EP’s in the past, their first LP Dead & Born & Grown is about to see the light. This collaboration with the always haunting Keaton Henson was a gift for all their fans and the folk world during late August. Named Icarus, the song is a newly revisited version from the second track of their EP Mexico and embraces the comparisons of the mythical character Icarus, the son of Daedalus, a kid who flew too close to the sun and whose wings of feathers and wax melt and caused him to fall and drown into the ocean; with loneliness and the loss of happiness between momentums of faith and hope.
This collaborated version melts the Staveley–Taylor sisters’ voices with Henson’s into a heaven-like moaning, in which the chorus I have not seen the light for days hits you right in the heart.
