Artist: The Slackers
Song: “Make Me Smile”
Album: The Question
We’re winding down reggae week here at Our Vinyl’ Song of the Day, but that doesn’t mean the jams won’t still be bumping.
Earlier this week we covered The Slackers, who performed in Riverside, California on their winter west coast tour. The band, a six-piece from the heart of New York City, is credited as being one of the strongest reggae revival bands around.
Playing together for over 20 years, The Slackers have carved their take on reggae into their own unique mold. Over time, their material has been influenced by ska, jazz, punk, rocksteady, blues, ragtime, and so much more. Reggae purists don’t seem to mind too much, though — when the music you make sounds this tight, complaints are few and far between.
Checkout one of their more traditional reggae tracks, “Make Me Smile,” below, and let us know what you think. Check back in tomorrow for the conclusion of reggae week, here at Our Vinyl.
