Artist: The Drums
The drums, a quartet that formed after Jonathan Pierce and Jacob Graham formed a friendship as children in summer camp, have been making quite the splash this year on the majority of music blogs, after their successful sophomore release, Portamento.
While their sound is easily attached to 80’s pop and neo-punk, it’s better to leave categorization alone with this group. While the band sites influences such as Joy Division and The Smiths, there’s something unique with these guys that allows them to separate from the refreshed and revived 80’s synth stylings we’ve been seeing so much of lately. “I want to buy you something — but I don’t have any money” may sound like cheesy enough lyrics, and they are; yet The Drums manage to pull it off anyway, and make it catchy to boot.
On a side note, how bout that guy’s shorts in this video? Rad.
