Artist: The Aggrolites
Song: “Work it”
Album: Reggae Hit L.A.
Welcome back for day three of reggae week, over here at Song of the Day.
Old sounds are great, making history and setting the stage for the next generation of musicians. One band taking the reigns for reggae music is The Aggrolites — a Los Angeles based five-piece bringing back some vintage sounds for a new audience.
Signed by Hellcat Records after their debut album Dirty Reggae in 2003, The Aggrolites released three albums through the label. After the completion of their fourth album, aptly named IV, The Aggrolites parted ways with the Tim Armstrong (of Rancid) owned label, and in 2011 released Rugged Road through Young Cub Records.
Check out the opening track to 2007’s Reggae Hit L.A.” below, and let us know what you think are some of the best reggae artists around today. Check back in tomorrow when we take a closer look at reggae’s more upbeat cousin, ska.
