Song: Undone – The Sweater Song
Album: Weezer (The Blue Album) (1994)
Oh Weezer…. Say it ain’t so! There was a time when you were the yin and yang of my musical universe. The Blue Album was for good moods, parties and driving around town with the windows down and Pinkerton was for those moments when the world wasn’t as welcoming. But on your past three or four albums, you’ve been reduced to a shell of your glorious past. I still can’t reconcile how a band that gave us songs like “My Name is Jonas”, “Surfwax America”, and “The Good Life” became an internet meme machine. It started out innocently enough… I mean, who wouldn’t want to see Weezer rock out with the Muppets? Things quickly went downhill from there culminating in a recent announcement that their new album, Hurley, is named after the character from Lost. Who knows, maybe they’ll put “Island In The Sun” on the album as a nod to their inspiration?
Ok, I’m done ranting now. “Undone – The Sweater Song” was the first single off of Weezer’s debut album and perhaps one of my favorite songs of all time. The drum opening instantly take me back to high school summer break just screwing around without a care in the world. The whole album practically screams summer fun. To this day, I randomly quote parts of the conversation that takes place during the song…. “Hey do you know about the party after the show? Aw man, it’s gonna be the best.”
Don’t pull this thread as I walk away; watch video and listen to the song instead!
