“You take your refined animosity / And hold it up to the whole world to see / It can’t make you happy / It can’t make you happy”
It’s this opening verse that intrigued me about today’s Song of the Day the first time I heard it. It’s a foreign concept to think of hostility and bitterness as articulated and refined because they’re such base emotions and emotions are rarely rational. I believe the point that La Strada is trying to make in Love You All Along is that having a well-crafted story of why a relationship didn’t work and hating the other person won’t make that pain go away.
In addition to thought provoking lyrics, La Strada brings a lush and diverse sound to Love You All Along. They whistle, they play the bells and have two violinists along with the standard band setup. If you like what you hear here, check out their debut album, New Home, which was one of my favorite albums of 2010.
