It’s cold here in Ohio. It’s also one of those days. This is why the song of the day shows reflections of a depressive nature.
The song Apologies is off the album ‘This Is Somewhere’, Grace Potter & the Nocturnals’ second studio album. ‘This Is Somewhere’ also was the band’s first major record label release on August 7, 2007.
The song has been featured on various TV shows; Kyle XY, One Tree Hill & Brothers & Sisters to name a few. This isn’t important.
What is important is the song itself. Grace Potter’s voice is sultry, provocative, and honest. Teamed with the lyrics of the song, the pain of the situation is evident. Girl meets boy, boy strings girl along, girl leaves boy (after a long painful realization), boy loses girl and “it hurts [him] that [he] didn’t figure it out before and now it’s too late…”
Not only does Grace represent the vocals on this one, she also rocks the piano. Basically, the Nocturnals are just backing her up.
Grace Potter & the Nocutrnals are a force to be reckoned with as far as up-and-coming artists are concerned. Their latest, self-titled album came out with a bang and still lingers on through most “new” artist charts. Far from new, the band was formed in late 2002 in Vermont. With a voice like Potter’s, the band’s inspirations are obvious—60s & 70s rock, funky blues and soul.
After listening to the painful beauty of Apologies, download some of their new album—it will definitely cure those winter blues.
