Happy Friday, everyone! Hope everyone had a good week of work and or school. Today’s song is from a band called, Good Old War. The band formed from the ashes of two bands, Days Away and Unlikely Cowboy. Their name comes from the last name of each member. Keith Goodwin for Good, Tim Arnold for Old, and Dan Schwartz for War. Their style is a mix of indie, late ’60s and early ’70s pop rock, and a hint of folk. To say their music is a throw back sound would be an understatement. If you are a fan for great harmonies, like myself then this is right up your alley.
The song I chose, “Tell Me” is a perfect example of their stripped down accompaniment with tons of harmonies from all three members. While most of their songs feature various instruments like guitar, keyboard, drums, accordian, among others this song is recorded the same way it is played for the radio station. It is a simple song that works for what it is: a pop song. The lyrics and rhythm are pretty simple and the vocal work is great. If you enjoy the likes of Crosby, Stills, and Nash (or with Young), Simon and Garfunkle, or some of the early Beatles work, I would highly suggest checking this band out.
