Artist: Shabazz Palaces
Album: Black Up
Shabazz Palaces, a hip-hop duo out of Seattle, put their stamp on the scene in 2011 with the release of their debut LP, Black Up. Members Ishmael Butler and Tendai Maraire became the first hip-hop group signed to Sub-Pop records, a label more commonly known for their indie catalog. In the process of the release, the group placed themselves in a number of blogs, magazines, and website’s top albums of the year.
The last track on the album, “Swerve,” is a great taste of what the duo is capable of. Watch your bass settings on this one, as these guys are known to pump it. What were some of your favorite hip-hop albums of 2011?
