Red, so many beautiful and dangerous things in this world are blood colored. Red is the color of fury, passion, love, alert, anger, thorned roses and, this time, one of the most mesmerizing & innocent sounding voices today.
Lourdes Hernández is the name, lyricist, voice and soul behind Russian Red, a lipstick color that is turning into a household name in her native Spain ever since her MySpace era, with a demo that earned her thousands of plays mere four years ago. With a voice that sounds like Joanna Newsom’s lost twin sister, Russian Red grabs you gently by the hand as she hypnotizes your senses.
One of the best examples of this phenomenon is the folk pop little treasure from her Fuerteventura album, I Hate You But I Love You. A bipolar romance, an angel like backup chorus, an acoustic guitar, quiet drumming and a universal feeling of confusion found themselves wrapped up nicely in a Spanish red package.
Delicacy hadn’t sound so nice in a while.
