Mike Stroud and Evan Mast are New York City duo Ratatat, an experimental electronic/rock band active since 2001.
Signed to XL Recordings soon after their debut album was recorded entirely on Mast’s laptop, Ratatat’s combination of video game esk bleeps, hip hop beats, and synthesized melodies, along with the occasional electric guitar and vocal sample, has propelled the duo to high success. In 2006, Ratatat was the first band to play a live event in New York’s Guggenheim Museum.
“Neckbrace,” featured here, comes off their 2010 release, LP4. The most recent of the band’s releases, LP4 is said to be a continuation of 2008’s LP3, as both albums were recorded during the same studio session. Ratatat stated that a new album would drop in 2012, but a release date has yet to be set.
