Old Settler’s Music Festival Preview

After kicking off festival season by rocking out with us at South By Southwest and dropping the bass for neon-clad ragers at Euphoria, the Austin music scene is back to showcase what it does best—roots, bluegrass, and Americana—at the 25th Anniversary Old Settler’s Music Festival taking place April 19-22, 2012. Located just outside the city in the beautiful Texas hill country, Old Settler’s is all about pitching a tent in the nearby campground, kicking back, and enjoying the very best that local vendors and American roots music have to offer.

Although many acts at this festival hearken simpler times in music and in life, Old Settler’s is far from old fashioned. Boasting a free iPhone app with features such as a radio stream of the artists, full interactive schedules and maps, and even a simulated lighter for those late-night groove sessions, Old Settler’s seamlessly interweaves the essence of classic Americana with the trends of today’s music. This medley is reflected in the festival’s lineup, which combines indie giants Iron & Wine and contemporary favorite Amos Lee with local authentic bluegrass revival acts, modern grassroots ensembles, and folk crooners. Be sure to catch even more up-and-coming local acts at the annual Youth Talent Competition, where “a new generation of Americana roots musicians” compete for cash and the opportunity to perform at the following year’s festival.

While there are plenty of lodging amenities nearby, festival-goers in search of the truest Old Settler’s experience should stay at the on-site campground, where the fun continues with bonuses such as the “Camp Ben Jam” on Friday afternoon, after hours around the campfire, and early morning yoga sessions to the tunes of “pickin & prayin” gospel. All of this, combined with a sea of local vendors and delicious food stands, makes Old Settler’s an absolute must for any fans of Americana and down home Texas living. So if you’re in the Austin area and itching for a little more festival action this Spring, be sure to head out to Old Settler’s for great music, great times, and great memories.

What’s even better we are offering a pair of free tickets to this year’s festival. Find the Facebook thread and tell us what band you are looking forward to seeing the most! The comment with the most likes will win a pair of tickets to this years festival!
