Finally back again with their first album in ten years, No Doubt release Push and Shove in September, and have released their debut single from the album, ‘Settle Down.’ Described as one of the most anticipated debuts of the decade, No Doubt is in the air and so are their classics. Today we take an adventure into Tragic Kingdom, and revive ‘Don’t Speak.’
Known as one of the few groups that could successfully mesh rock and bubble-gum pop together, with lead singer Gwen Stefani adding to the pop factor on vocals. Her sweet, bubbly nature transcends into her sound and influences the rest of the band to go a different direction on the instruments. ‘Don’t Speak’ displays Stefani’s true gentle sound with this sincere and delicate song. Acoustics are the basis of the song, with features of electric guitar in the verses. The song continues on to add deeper notes in both bass and vocals. There are also hints of a Spanish sound on the guitar pieces in the bridges of the song.
Although their new single may lack their earlier rock influence, it’s nothing more of a delight to have the four back in action with a promising album of the year, if not the most anticipated. We’ll have to wait and see how the album fares out, but for now, we remember the band who added life into music in the 90’s and early 00’s.
