Oakland, California’s Mortar and Pestle picked up their name from a suggestion given by a close friend. Sadly, she would pass away soon after. Keyboardist Paul Shinichi believes that the memory of her life has been the bond that has held Mortar and Pestle together — the band’s debut self-titled EP was produced as a memorial.
“Pristine Dream” is the first single off of the band’s newest effort, set to drop on May 7th. A song about the misgivings of love, the track baths in electronic overtones as lead vocalist Janaysa Lambert laments over a potentially dangerous love affair, and the strength that grows out of such experiences.
