Local Natives (previously known as Cavil at Rest) as they stand, formed in 2008 when all of the group members moved into a house in Silver Lake, California to record their first album. Their music certainly falls under the impossibly broad spectrum of indie rock, and they can be more specifically pinned as some kind of modern-psych-folk-indie-rock mutt.
Today’s song is called “Who Knows Who Cares” and comes from the band’s debut album “Gorilla Manor”. The album is full of catchy melodies and stimulating lyrics but for this writer, “Who Knows” truly outshines the rest of the material. They have managed to perfectly encapsulate a feeling that every human experiences at one point or another during periods of momentous change. A difficult truth is perfectly conveyed in this song; the only way to come to terms with change is to completely let go, “Is my life going to change? Who knows, Who cares…” Pour a glass of wine, lay in bed and have a loved one sing this song to you… Only then can you really embrace life’s endless possibilities that lay ahead.
