Artist: Jackson Browne
Jackson Browne, like his contemporary 1970s singer-songwriters Joni
Mitchell and James Taylor, utilized the laid-back California aesthetic
with introspective lyrics and folk-based guitar playing. Browne might
be best known for “Take It Easy,” made famous by the Eagles.
“I’m Alive” is one of Browne’s more recent creations about getting
over a break up and moving on. It is nothing transcendent or entirely
new, but a near perfect portrayal of a failed relationship. Browne’s
voice is uncomplicated and, paired with David Lindley’s expressive
slide, becomes upbeat yet bittersweet.
