For those keeping score at home, yes, we did in fact feature another song from How To Destroy Angels not too long ago. That song was lead single “How Long,” a very poppy, soulful number. This week saw the official release of their first full length LP ‘Welcome Oblivion,’ so it felt right to celebrate this band again with the titular song. Even if you weren’t crazy for the single give this a listen. Long time Trent Reznor finds will find glee in this industrial-tinged track’s forceful delivery that sounds like the closest this band has come to sounding like Nine Inch Nails. Give it a listen:
How To Destroy Angels’ “Welcome Oblivion”
This is solid proof that the band is versatile and capable of pulling the music in any direction they wish. The album it comes from has NIN-esque tracks like this that harken back to the glitchy sound of ‘Year Zero,’ a pop song, and many slow-burn instrumentals or nearly-instrumentals that seem similar to Reznor and Atticus Ross’ soundtrack work. It may feel slight compared to the towering rage and emotion of Nine Inch Nails, but it’s also incredibly satisfying in its own way. The entire album is streaming for free on Soundcloud, so please give it a listen and let us know what you think.
