George Harrison’s “All Things Must Pass”

Song Of The Day

Today’s song is a perfect one for an autumn Sunday. It is “All Things Must Pass” from George Harrison. It is from his album of the same name, which was the first one he released post Beatles (it is also a masterpiece of an album, if you don’t have it, rectify that immediately). In this song George tells us simply, and charmingly, how everything must pass. How each present moment, no matter how great or terrible, will pass. Life is forever moving, the future constantly eating upon the past. What he is trying to say is that the non-permanence of any moment doesn’t detract from it’s power or beauty – it only adds to it.

This author writes this as red and gold leaves dance in the trees outside the window. The day is warm, the sun is bright, and all the foliage is in the middle of their prepossessing death dance. The days are becoming less warm, bright, and long though. Autumn is quite the reminder that nothing lasts, you can see it in nature, and feel it in your body.

But don’t despair, in fact, celebrate! Because, All Things Must Pass…
