This summer 90s nostalgia is in full effect. In celebration of their new album, Invisible Stars, Everclear put together the Summerland Tour, a celebration of a time when they were at the top of the alterna-heap. They’re bringing with them names that would have been played right beside theirs in 1997: Marcy Playground, Lit, Gin Blossoms and Sugar Ray. For anyone that listened to the radio back then and misses the songs of that era, this tour is your chance.
To celebrate so much 90s goodness in one concert, we bring you the song that put Everclear on the map, “Santa Monica.” It rocks hard after the minute and a half mark and has been a great break-up anthem for many a teen over the years. Not to mention his screaming for sunshine, which interestingly makes this bitter track have a distinctly sunny SoCal feel to it at the same time.
If this is your first time experiencing this song, then have fun, it’s one of the 90’s finest anthems; it holds up fantastically well today, not sounding dated in the least with a universal message anyone that’s ever had a broken heart can understand. If you’re all too familiar, then enjoy this Friday Flashback.
