Something great must have happened to leader singer E of the Eels in the past few years. After releasing the dark and gritty ‘Hombre Lobo’ and the incredibly bleak ‘End Times’ people worried that he was bordering on self-parody with how typical and mopey his lyrics had become. Then ‘Tomorrow Morning’ appeared with so much more hope than anything he’d released in a long time. After touring the last three albums he took a well-deserved break, and now he returns, more positive and exuberant than ever. Take a listen to this feel good jam, “Peach Blossom.”
Eels’ “Peach Blossom”
This is the first track to appear from the forthcoming album called “Wonderful, Glorious.’ The bass lines are warm and fuzzy as E encourages us to take a moment to stop and smell the flowers, so to speak. It may not be as catchy as some of his earlier singles, but it’s a step in the right direction, combining the gritty production and sense of fun apparent on ‘Hombre Lobo’ with the upbeat lyrics and execution of ‘Tomorrow Morning.’ If this great track is any indication, we just may receive the best Eels album in ages.
