Dream Theater’s “Pull Me Under”

Song Of The Day

From a vastly different corner of the music world we celebrate the birthday of Dream Theater guitarist John Petrucci. For those unfamiliar with the band, this song is the perfect introduction: it’s from their 1992 breakthrough album ‘Images and Words’ and is arguably their most well-known song, “Pull Me Under.” Listen to this heavy yet melancholy song from the progressive metal giants:

Could the use of keyboards and overall sound in this song be considered a little dated? Sure. But strip away those distractions and what you have is an unforgettable song that makes your ears pay attention: soaring vocals, impressive guitar work and massive drums that even Neil Peart could admire. They’ve moved away from this sound to something a little heavier in the past decade, but they continue to impress audiences both new and old with their virtuosity and stellar musicianship. Happy Birthday John Petrucci! Long may you rock us with your heavy and technically impressive riffs!
