The song of the day today is the title track from Destroyer’s recent release Kaputt. In the young year of 2011 this album is certainly one of the highlights thus far yet this 9 track CD sounds completely out of place in this era, evoking elements of new-wave and melodic psychadelia. There are many different elements that have been added to the band’s lineup for the CD and the use of horns throughout this track to provide a blanket to the relentless bass lines certainly makes this track stand out.
If that weren’t enough, the video for this song may be one of the strangest and most intriguing videos in recent memory that only adds to the odd allure of this song. I had the chance to check this band out recently at a sold out Webster Hall in New York City and the live show definitely held up to the latest release. 7 members in addition to front-man Dan Bejar helped bring Kaputt to life, and it was definitely interesting seeing all of the different sonic elements take form.
