Today’s song is an interesting track for a number of reasons. “Telemiscommunicaitons” is from Deadmau5 and Imogen Heap, where as you might guess, she provides the beautifully haunting vocals and a little piano playing and he the backing track. But if you are expecting a bass drop, or for the traditional electronic crescendo, you will be sadly disappointed. But then you’ll probably get over that and realize you still really enjoyed the track.
Deamau5 provides a backing track comprises of drone sounds, some grand piano, and quick-and-glitchy percussive sounds that seemingly bubble up into the stereo field. It’s a backing track that almost say more with it’s use of silence than with sound. That’s rare. It also creates for arresting music.
Imogen Heap’s vocals on this track are stunning. She is singing about a couple’s miscommunication via the cell phone and just busy modern lives. It’s the way she emotively says so much through the manner she sings extremely simple lines, like when she speaks of getting a call while at the airport, Shoes off / you’re calling / voicemail… On paper those lyrics don’t seem very substantial, but we all know what she means when you hear the way she sings them. And while touring artists probably encounter these Telemiscommunications issues more than the normal person, the feelings expressed are ones everyone can relate to.
Also, it’s just a good song for a Sunday. Enjoy.
