Today’s song of the day is perfect for relaxing on a Sunday afternoon, kicking back around the grill with a beer and some friends. The title track of Cope’s new album, “See” is a laid back representation of the band and their South Florida jam scene. The track starts with a great guitar/organ harmony and a funky bass line. The lyrics have a message about opening your eyes to the negative thing going on around us before its too late, but around 3:30 they turn over the foreground of the song to a sultry improv sax solo that lasts half of the ten-minute jam.
The “Undisputed Jam Kings of Tampa Bay”, COPE formed over eight years ago in Ohio (which is showing up as an incubator for a lot of great bands). You can tell that every player in the band knows how they fit into the mix and their sound is layered but balanced. Catch them at Aura next weekend, and touring around the Southeast this spring.
