We’re approaching the end of a work week and that calls for a little celebration dance in the form of this incredibly catchy ear candy from up and coming British pop songstress Charli XCX. Co-produced by Pitchfork darling Golden Panda, listen to “You (Ha Ha Ha)” and try not bob your head or immediately reach for the play button a second or third time.
OurVinyl has told you before how great Charli XCX is, but it’s something that bears repeating. This is unabashedly pop, yet it manages to avoid some of the tropes of Top 40 tracks that sound to these ears like nails against a chalk board. She sounds cool and confident, with no need to beat you over the head with an over-exaggerated, borderline yelling chorus like Kelly Clarkson and other female pop singers that are in vogue right now. Plus it’s a song that you can enjoy at night in the club or if you’re chilling at home: it works for both situations, which is rare for music this dance-y. Keep your eye on this lady: it seems like she’s only going to get better and more popular as time goes on.
