Yes, when writing about the band, make sure you capitalize every letter. That’s the way CAKE likes it, and with the monster jams they concoct record after record, it’s only fair to oblige. Here, the opening track off their newest album, 2010’s Showroom of Compassion, “Federal Funding” shows off everything that makes CAKE, well, CAKE. Hard riffs, vocal droning, catchy horn lines, and a rhythm section other bands dream of calling their own, are just the structural foundations of CAKE’s songs. What gets built on top is just the icing. Get it? CAKE? Icing?
