Regarded as Chile’s MGMT, the comparison is pretty obvious once you hit play and hear their track Ciervos, where the amalgam of now standardized neo psychedelic synthesizers around organic guitar strums and borderline Latin drumming could remind a lot of MGMT’s Oracular Spectacular era, though Astro gives it a nice and branded twist.
With international festival such as México’s Vive Latino, Colombia’s Rock Al Parque and US’s Lollapalooza and just an EP and an album out, Astro’s fan base broke the language barrier. Currently touring Europe and after watching them a few months back playing live and tearing up the stage, all this writer can say is: go watch them if you can or at least give Spanish alternative psychedelic neo pop rock a chance – where does this genres come from anyway?
And also, I dare you, double dare you, not to head bang and dance as the song starts.
