Washington, DC based Andy Zipf has taken a turn away from his more aggressive style on his recent release, Jealous Hands.

While Zipf is used to focusing his creative efforts around rock guitar riffs, the artist opted for centering his third full-length effort around a more intimate vocal style this time around.

“I don’t think I’ve ever done anything this personal before,” says Zipf.

With over 400 live shows over a four year span, Andy Zipf had spent his first two full-lengths trying to capture his live performance feel. This time around, the singer/songwriter decided to work more closely with producer Jeremy Griffith (Norma Jean, Guiltmaker) to create an even more immersive listening experience.

Spending a day recording each song, Zipf and Griffith whittled what was a 20-track effort down to ten intimate songs, a summary of the artist’s past year on the road.

Taking a page from some of his favorite artists like Tom Petty and Bruce Springsteen, Andy Zipf decided to focus his career around making friendships and connections while on the road. The option of settling down in a major city and searching for the big record deal did present itself – but Zipf believes it’s life on the road that produces the highest quality music.

It seems as if Zipf’s approach is working. The artist has garnered attention from the likes of XM radio, The Today Show, VH1, and MTV, and has been featured on the ABC show Private Practice.

Perhaps the biggest change in the artist’s sound is the inclusion of a full backing band, featured for the first time on Jealous Hands. Things are only looking up for Zipf, who has always believed in sharing his music to the widest audience possible. Need proof? While Jealous Hands is available for 320kbit/s download on Apple’s iTunes, a 192kbit/s version can be downloaded for free on the artist’s website. Can’t beat that.
