Chiptune heroes Anamanaguchi releases their eagerly anticipated sophomore LP Endless Fantasy last week. With an inimitable skill at crafting important sounding, densely nostalgic music with a NES from 1985 sounds like an impossibility. Listen to their new single “Planet” and then listen to their single “Airbrushed”, and then listen to their entire freshman effort Dawn Metropolis. Beware though, it’s impossible not to get completely sucked in. Allow yourself to get carried away with the skittery, high energy guitar lines and arpeggiated 8-bit synth lines. It’s like eating an entire Sam’s Club sized bag of Skittles and then riding a neon colored dragon through the night sky, painting the stars with molten lava. Or living in Tokyo. The stuff is as fresh as it gets, no one else is doing this style of music even nearly as well.
