Nelsonville – The Biggest Little Festival You May Have Never Heard Of – Until Now

The 7th annual Nelsonville Music Festival is only days away, and what a year this looks to be for both weather and artists. Set in the rolling hills of Southern Ohio on the Robbins Crossing campus of Hocking Hills the show is set in one of natures most beautiful places, with greenery as far as the eye can see.  Nestled in the soft-spoken hillside community the festival is a community celebration of music and arts, but fear not as all are welcome and the line-up of performers this years’ has something for everyone.

Community is certainly the theme in this festival, with local artists and food vendors located on the grounds and without 50,000 people this is a weekend where music lovers can enjoy the scenery and listen to local Ohio musicians as well as some well-known national acts without walking three miles to the campground and negotiating strangely placed “drinking areas”. This is a place where the music is, and where  community is the word of the day. If prior years are an example many artists pull up a chair after their set and enjoy the rest of the show.

Previous years have featured Willie Nelson, Mudhoney, T-Model Ford, Sharon and the Dap-Kings, Loretta Lynn, Black Joe Lewis and the Honeybears, as well a Michael Hurley, and hundreds of other acts.

This year will not disappoint, Friday night’s line-up will include sets from George Jones and Justin Townes Earl.  Saturday acts include Baby Dee, Yo La Tenga and The Flaming Lips and on Sunday Doug Paisley, Wanda Jackson and Neko Case are some of the Main Stage Acts.

Throughout the entire weekend local, regional and other national acts will play on the grounds as well on the Porch Stage and the No-Fi Cabin.  The quality and caliber of artists on both the Main Stage and on the two secondary stages is enormous and musical acts will keep all three locations busy this weekend. Listeners may drive in to see someone in particular but will surely be enraptured with the various sights and sounds that surround them.

For a three day pass $80 is a deal, compare this to Coachella or Bonaroo festival-goers…and for those who don’t like to camp single day passes are also available, although camping is really half of the fun.
