From November 9th – 14th, near the I-10 interstate, about half-way between Tallahassee and Jacksonville in northern Florida the Bear Creek Music Festival will take place. It is not your average music festival either. How many festivals take place in this part of the year? How many festivals allow people to drive around, should they be insured, in their own golf carts? How many festivals have acts scheduled until 5am? How many festivals start on a Wednesday and end on Sunday, allowing for people to purchase 3, 4, or 5 day passes? These are just some of the subtleties that make Bear Creek the singular event that it is.
A camping festival, it goes down at the The Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park (which offers both cabins, RV hookups, camp grounds, and great amenities). This festival employs an interesting scheduling technique. On Wednesday 2 stages will be operating, on Thursday 4, on Friday and Saturday all 6 will be going, and on Sunday it’s 4 again. This not only allows for people to slowly move in and out of a marathon-like 5 day music festival, but it also means that people who buy only the 3 day festival will be able to catch the lion’s share of the weekend’s performances.
As you can see, the lineup leans towards jam band and roots music, but isn’t confined to any one genre at all (click here to see the full day-by-day musical schedule). After all, it would be hard to offer music until 5am unless you have a variety of music to placate the crowd with. Some not-to-miss highlights; John Cleary (with piano, bass, and drums), Ivan Neville’s Dumpsatphunk, Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad, KRAZ (DJ set).
Guess what is even more AMAZING!
